Why was digital technology considered? Who first developed digital cameras?

when photography was invented and later developed, how did digital photography come into being?

1. By accident. If you look up CCD or charged coupled device on wikipedia, you will learn that scientists were trying to develope a type of memory chip, if I recall correctly, and accidentally invented the CCD sensor.
