Home movie program that keeps quality of digital pictures?

I made a home movie that incorporates digital pictures, music, and titles. I used Windows Movie Maker 2, and was so disappointed with how all of the pictures lost an unacceptable amount of quality (the video, strangely, was fine). I've tried figuring out a way around the problem, but I just can't narrow down the massive amount of information on papjohn.com's site to information that helps me with my question (or maybe I'm just not understanding it). Is there another program that can combine video and digital pictures that doesn't reduce the quality of the pictures as they go from my computer to the program, to the DVD, to the TV screen? I want my pictures to look the same as when I plug the camera directly into the TV. I use a Canon PowerShot SD850IS elph. Please help!

  1. i think the problem is that when you make a movie, all files are converted to 720x480 standard tv resolution (your source image files are probably MUCH larger) there is no way that i know of to get around this unless you have an hdtv and an hd-capable editing software (and possibly a blu-ray/hd-dvd burner) as this will bring max resolution up to 1920x1080..
