Will red and white RCA cables from digital cable box to home theater = Dolby?

I have red and white cables going from my digital cable box to my home theater system. The digital box has an option for digital audio out and my home theater system has an option for digital audio in, but will buying that cable make any difference? I read in another post that it will only do Digital Pro Logic II or something, but that was a little different since it was coming from the analog TV and not a digital cable box. So what do I need for the best sound? Thanks! Alright, I hooked up the white RCA cable as the 'digital out/in cable' but it isnt working now. Can someone confirm that the RCA cable can be used to transmit the digital audio (so I dont really need to buy a separate cable)??

  1. yes that would have a very big difference everything would be in Dolby digital. if it is SPDIF (that's how i think its spelled) you dint even have to necciarly but a new cable just either use the red or the white and make sure it matches up
  2. Yes it will make a difference. For best sound, use the digital audio. You will then get 5.1 surround sound. Right front, left front, center, right rear, left rear and subwoofer. Using the red and white cables will only get you dolby pro logic - which is four channels: right front, left front, center and rear
  3. yes it will the red/white wires only give the stereo signal (left and right) while the digital connection will give you any digital surround sound information to your receiver to decode
  4. yes = dolby but digital?
  5. you are getting dolby but its not digital 5.1 its called pro logic or pro logic II but its not as good as digital you can use either an optical cable or spdif those are both digital and you will notice a huge difference
