- okay, i'll explain this as best as possible. plain old fashioned wires have better sound quality than optical cables so ditch the optical cable. plus the optical cables are very touchy and don't always carry information as a whole all the way through. just use the L/R rca jacks that come out back of the standard A/V hook up on the back of the xbox 360. trust me they carry all the information you need for surround sound. also make sure the sound is optimized on your 360. once all that is done you should have no problem. all a recievers job to do is accept, process, divide, amplify, and export the sound. it has no affiliation with producing the sound. if you still have a problem check your audio settings on your reciever. if it's not that then you have a faulty piece of audio equipment.
- charles t is wrong. he's either messing with you or truely does not know what he's talking about. Im gonna start from the top. When playing a game on 360 you want to hear that gernande drop behind you. you want to hear the enemy walk up from behind you. Assuming you have a surround sound system(5.1 or better) the only way to accuratly hear that noise is to have it hooked up with a digital cable. Unfortunately, the 360 has only a optical digital cable output. Hook it up to your reciever and make sure the reciever is setup to see that input you went into with the optical cable. Then you have to go into the system setting of the 360 and tell it you want dolby digital. Not dolby surround like the jackass above wants you to believe. Once you have that done, you should have a game that says dobly digital on the back of the case. Put it in and you reciever should say dolby digital in the screen. This means that your reciever is getting a dolby digital signal and your 360 is putting a dolby digital signal out. I hook 360's up almost daily. I personally have a xbox and ps2. I play socom and other shooting games on my ps2 and love the surround sound. My xbox doesn't have a digital out so i have to use analog and it sucks. you can hear the difference.
