How do you find book reading in our digital world?

I mean: is it all right? Or you'd like to suggest something else? Reading on-line, for instance.

  1. I love reading books and no digital technology can replace the feel and smell of a good book.
  2. I think reading paper books is fine and doesn't need to be replaced by anything. have you tried reading a book online? while in bed? Not very comfortable is it? Some things don't need changing, no matter how much technology needs to be sold to keep the high tech companies in the black.
  3. I love reading books, I don't think there is anything as far as I am concerned that can replace it.
  4. I do a lot less book reading than I did B.C. (Before Computers) My online reading consists of looking up information quickly (for Yahool! Answers) and checking tables of contents, indexes, before buying books on Amazon. My Fiction reading has dropped quite a bit and my non-fiction reading is rarely reading a book from cover to cover. I usually skip around looking for just the interesting parts. I still have several books going at the same time, but it takes longer to get through them because of my online reading.
  5. true books can never really be replaced but computer designers are developing some pretty interesting substitutes... A company in China is developing a touch screen hand held computer that can store up to 200,000 books that can be accessed from a drop down menu that resembles a bookshelf and can be organized by title, author, genre, or . when you are ready to turn the page you scroll your finger from the edge of the screen to the opposite edge and it animates just like if you were turning a page. but on a more current level i love audiobooks, you can plug them in and 'read' your book while doing something productive like walking the dogs or cleaning your room...
  6. I love reading books . i could never finish a story if i was reading online i'd be doing other things and DL and printing is a waste of my paper. if i want a free book i'll go to the library.
  7. To me, the medium is not important as long as it is transparent. Whether or not I've simply grown accustomed to the mechanics of reading a physical book or that books are inherently superior to other text delivery systems I couldn't tell you. All I know is that the printed page, for me personally, still represents the easiest, cheapest, most portable medium I've encountered. So I read a lot of books. And they're so good at text delivery that they are completely transparent; the interface has become second nature to me and I'm unaware of the motor skills I'm putting to use to access the text. But if something were to appear tomorrow, some device that could provide the resolution, the ergonomics, and general ease of use (as well as provide the same broad selection of titles) I would ditch paper in a second. But I've yet to see anything that comes close.
